Classic is the primary game mode featured in the Bejeweled series. This mode does not have a time limit. The aim is to swap gems to make a matching set of three or more gems of the same color. Once matched, other gems will fall onto the same row or column of where the gems were matched. Every match will make the bar at the bottom advance, and once it is completely filled up, the player will advance to the next level. The game ends when there are no more possible moves.

In the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions ofBejeweled 3, the icon that represents Classic in the game menu is a Blue Gem shining.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very basic, with only the basic gems and special gems. In Bejeweled 2, these special gems are Power Gems and Hypercubes, whereas in Bejeweled 3 and Bejeweled Classic, they are Flame Gems, Star Gems, Supernova Gems, and Hypercubes.

There is no time limit per level, as the player advances to the next level when the bar at the bottom of the board is filled as you play. As the player advances to higher levels, the player's base score is multiplied by x0.5, which increases with every level; however, more points will be required to progress to the later levels. The game ends when no more moves are possible.

Gameplay tips

• Always keep as many Hypercubes and Special Gems on the game board as possible.
  • Hypercubes can be considered as Classic's "safety net", as the player can activate a Hypercube if he/she ever runs out of moves, allowing for more matches to be made. It is recommended to use a Hypercube when no more normal moves are possible.
  • In Bejeweled 2, Hypercubes are fragile and can be destroyed by Power Gems or swapping a Hypercube with another Hypercube; unlike the newer installments of the Bejeweled series. It is advisable to avoid swapping two Hypercubes and keep distance between Power Gems and Hypercubes, as they will destroy all the Hypercubes present on board or the Hypercube will dissolve without triggering any effects after a Power Gem explodes.
• Matching gems lower in the board will displace higher ones, potentially creating but also breaking possible matches so it is best to always try to match gems as high as possible and match lower gems when no other moves are available.
• In Bejeweled 2, pressing the hint button will reduce both your score and the progress bar, making the level longer to complete. Waiting for a hint will not inflict that penalty.

Bejeweled 2

• According to evidence found inside the game files of Bejeweled 2, it seems that Classic mode were originally known as Normal mode.
• The game mode is even known as such in Bejeweled Deluxe.
• Reaching level 18 in Classic unlocks Twilight (But in Astraware version you'd get Original instead).
• Reaching level 6 on console versions unlocks Twilight.

Bejeweled 3

• The icon that represents the game mode in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions reuses the Blue Gem graphics from Bejeweled 2.
• Reaching level 5 in Classic mode unlocks Poker, or in the mobile version, Diamond Mine.
• The score counter caps at 2,147,483,647 points, to prevent an integer overflow. Once the game ends, the score reads as 2,147,483,648 instead on the Stats screen.
• Reaching level 10 in Classic mode awards the Elite Badge Levelord.

Bejeweled Classic

• When running out of moves, "The Voice" will say "Game Over" instead of "No More Moves".
