SEMI-PERMANENT MAKEUP: “How do you tattoo eyebrows?”

SEMI-PERMANENT EYEBROW TATTOO | cost | before and after photo (19)

Successful eyebrow tattooing is achieved through different techniques which are applied depending on the client’s skin tone, skin type and the desired result.

  • Traditional tattoos are done using tattoo machines that insert the ink deeper into the skin. This makes them permanent
  • Cosmetic tattoos (lips, brows, eyeliner) are done using suitable digital tattoo machines and pigments. The special pigments are inserted less deep into your skin (epidermis). Hence an eyebrow tattoo is semi-permanent and allows the client to make adjustments down the line as facial features change with age

EYEBROW SHAPING TECHNIQUES

The secret -to natural, fuller, and defined brows- is in the technique and the colour of the pigment used.

All brows are uniquely tattooed for each individual. On your first consultation, I will explain each of these techniques in detail so don’t worry if it looks overwhelming. We will also draw temporary shapes and can tweak them until you are fully satisfied.

Combo Brows

My clients usually go with combination brows because the tattoo is not too striking. Hair strokes are tattooed towards the bulb (front) in combination with a softer shading throughout.

Natural Hair Stroke

Digital Hair Stroke brows mimic real hair follicles. They are created with a cosmetic tattooing machine using a special pigment different from the ink used in body tattooing.

Powder Brows

The powder fill method gives you a similar look to makeup powder or brow gel. This is achieved through thousands of tiny dots applied to the skin.

Ombre Look

The aim is to create a soft powder makeup look which is lighter at the front of the brow and gets darker towards the tail.

WHO CAN GET EYEBROW TATTOOS?

The ideal candidates for cosmetic eyebrow tattoos are those experiencing scarce growth or even sudden loss of hair follicles. This could occur naturally or due to varied reasons such as progressions of skin disease, chemotherapy sessions, scars, or marks of pigmentation in the eyebrow region.

Some women also end up over-plucking the hair follicles which could lead to badly shaped brows and slow growth. We – women, in particular, are more conscious about our eyebrows so we want to improve our shape, colour, and appearance because having these beautifully defined brows can give us a massive boost in confidence.

The PRICE of eyebrow tattoo in UK

When it comes to eyebrow tattoos, the price in the UK can vary depending on where you go and the skill of the artist. Generally, you can expect to pay between £200 and £500 for an eyebrow tattoo. Prices tend to be higher in larger cities or if the artist is highly soughtafter.

The size of the area to be tattooed and the complexity of the design can also affect the price. Additionally, since most eyebrow tattoos require multiple sessions, the total cost could be higher if you need to return for touchups or to add further detail.

AFTERCARE: “What’s the healing process of eyebrow tattoos?”

SEMI-PERMANENT EYEBROW TATTOO | cost | before and after photo (21)

Your freshly tattooed eyebrows will go through a natural healing process and it is important to know the right aftercare for beautiful and lasting results.

Prior to getting your semi-permanent eyebrow tattoo, you might want to book a free consultation where we can discuss any skin conditions or allergies, answer your questions and give you more information about this procedure. At this point, you are under no obligation to book your treatment.

If you decide to go for it here’s what you should do in order to recover as effectively as possible during the healing process. There are many factors that determine the healing time and the quality of your cosmetic tattoo. Age, skin type, circulation, diet, stress and exposure to sunlight are just a few of them and for the purpose of keeping this short, I will not go into all of these now.

WHAT IS NORMAL?

  • Immediately after your brow tattoo procedure, you should start experiencing minor swelling and redness, and your skin will be sensitive. Don’t worry because this is a natural reaction.
  • Initially, the colour might seem too dark but within a week it will start fading and even look patchy in places. This is due to scabbing.
  • Throughout the healing process, the tattoo will fade to a much lighter tone and the colour will even out. After about 4 weeks the procedure area should have healed completely
  • If you’ve booked a follow-up appointment (at no extra cost) we can examine your brows and hair strokes in detail to fill in any areas needing adjustment or correction.
  • You should get a top-up every year to keep your eyebrows looking sleek and beautiful.

AFTERCARE

  • At this point, it is essential to keep your brows free of makeup.
  • Keep your tattoo dry for 1 week. ( avoid swimming pools )
  • If itchy, use a Q-tip to apply aftercare ointment once or twice daily, but DO NOT scratch or scrub the area.
  • Avoid exposing the area to sun or tanning beds.
  • Do not tweeze or dye your eyebrows for 1 week.

HEALING PROCESS

Before Tattoo

This is how the client came before getting her eyebrows tattooed. Make sure your brows are clean and makeup free.

After Tattoo

After the first session, your fresh sleek brows are ready for healing. You will get natural skin reactions such as redness, skin sensitivity and some swelling which last for a few days.

1 Week Healing

At this point, the top layer of skin starts to scab off and your tattooed brows will look a bit uneven and “patchy”. Do not rub, scratch or scrub off the area.

2 Weeks Healing

Your eyebrows are now mostly healed and you will notice that the colour has faded off significantly. Do not panic at this stage as this is part of a normal healing process.

4 Weeks Healing

Your cosmetic tattoo is fully healed now and ready for the second session which is included in the initial cost. The colour came back slightly and your brows are not so patchy anymore.

Touch Up Session

4 weeks from your initial brow tattoo appointment you should get your touch-up session. If necessary I will adjust the colour tone and make slight modifications to the shape of your eyebrows.

Eyebrow tattoo Q&A:

Is eyebrow tattoo same as microblading?

Eyebrow tattoo and microblading are similar in that they both involve implanting pigment into the skin to create the appearance of fuller or more defined eyebrows. However, there are some key differences between the two techniques:

Microblading: Also known as “eyebrow embroidery,” microblading is a form of semi-permanent makeup that uses a handheld tool to deposit pigment into the skin. The tool has a row of fine needles that create hair-like strokes that mimic natural brow hairs. Microblading is considered to be a more natural-looking method of tattooing, as it mimics the look of real hair.

Eyebrow tattoo: A traditional tattoo involves using a machine to inject ink into the skin. This technique can be used to create a bolder, more defined brow. It is less natural looking. Eyebrow tattoos tend to fade over time, becoming a lighter color than original but that effect take years.

Microblading is generally considered to be less invasive than eyebrow tattooing, as the needles used are finer and the pigment is not injected as deeply into the skin. Microblading is also a less permanent solution, lasting typically 1-3 years with a touchup before fading away. On the other hand, an eyebrow tattoo will last longer and may not need as many touch-ups, but it is a more invasive process.

Ultimately, the best choice will depend on your personal preferences and the look you are trying to achieve. Before getting either treatment, be sure to do your research and find a licensed, experienced practitioner.

How long does an eyebrow cosmetic tattoo last?

The duration of an eyebrow cosmetic tattoo can vary depending on several factors, including the type of pigments used, the technique applied, and an individual’s skin type and overall health.

On average, an eyebrow cosmetic tattoo can last anywhere from 1 to 3 years. However, with proper touch-ups and care, it can last even longer. The color of the pigment will also fade gradually over time due to natural exfoliation of the skin, UV exposure and other environmental factors, which is why touch-ups are often required to maintain the desired appearance.

Can you remove eyebrow tattoos?

Yes, it is possible to remove eyebrow tattoos. There are a number of methods that can be used to remove unwanted tattoos, including laser tattoo removal, dermabrasion, and surgical excision.

Laser tattoo removal is the most commonly used method for removing eyebrow tattoos. The laser breaks up the pigment in the tattoo, which is then absorbed by the body and gradually fades over time. The number of treatments required for full removal can vary, depending on factors such as the size and depth of the tattoo, the type of pigment used, and the individual’s skin type.

Dermabrasion is a mechanical method of tattoo removal that uses a wire brush or diamond fraise to abrade the skin and remove the tattoo. Surgical excision is a method that involves cutting out the tattooed skin and stitching the edges together. This is typically only done for smaller tattoos and its an invasive method with potential scarring and recovery time.

It’s important to note that these methods may not completely remove the tattoo and may result in some discoloration or scarring. Also, it’s important to remember that the process of removal can be painful and healing time could be considerable. Therefore, it is important to consult with a licensed professional with experience in tattoo removal before undergoing any treatment. They will be able to advise you on the best method for your specific case, as well as manage any potential side effects and complications.

Do tattoo eyebrows look fake?

Whether or not tattooed eyebrows look fake can depend on a variety of factors, such as the skill of the technician performing the procedure, the technique used, and the individual’s unique facial structure and features.

When done properly, tattooed eyebrows can look natural and enhance a person’s overall appearance. The aim of the procedure is to create a subtle, realistic-looking enhancement to the natural brows rather than creating a completely new brow shape that doesn’t match the individual’s natural face. The technician can use techniques such as feathering, shading, and creating hair-like strokes to mimic the natural look of eyebrows.

However, if the procedure is done poorly, the results can look unnatural and fake. For example, if the technician uses the wrong technique or the wrong pigments, the eyebrows may appear too dark, too thick, or too unnatural in shape. Additionally, if the technician isn’t skilled, the strokes can appear too uniform and fake.

It’s also important to keep in mind that with time the pigments fade, and the tattoo will require touch ups, if the touch ups aren’t done properly the tattoo can appear uneven, mismatched or fake.

Therefore, it’s important to do your research and choose a reputable and skilled technician, who is licensed and has experience with cosmetic tattooing and have good aftercare recommendations to ensure the best possible outcome. Also, consider that the procedure is not a one-time thing, and it will require maintenance to keep the desired look.

How long does it take?

Typically, a basic eyebrow tattooing session can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. This will include a consultation, during which the technician will discuss your desired shape and color, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the final result looks as natural as possible. Then, the technician will draw on a preliminary shape for you to approve before starting the tattoo process. The actual tattooing process can take around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the technique and the size of the area.

Microblading is a semi-permanent technique that can take 2 hours to complete. This includes the consultation, drawing the shape, and the tattooing process itself. Since it’s a manual technique, it takes longer than traditional tattooing.

After the tattooing process is completed, the technician will apply ointment and bandage to the area, and provide you with aftercare instructions. It’s important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure proper healing and to maintain the best possible results.

It’s worth noting that this is a rough estimate and individual results may vary, depending on the technique used, the size of the area being tattooed, and the skill of the technician performing the procedure. It’s always a good idea to consult with a licensed professional who can provide more accurate information on the expected time frame for your specific case.

Do I have to shave my eyebrows before getting the done?

It is generally not necessary to shave your eyebrows before getting them tattooed. However, the technician performing the procedure may trim any excess hair to ensure a clean and precise application. This will be done carefully, to avoid over-trimming or damaging your natural brows.

For both microblading and traditional tattooing, the technician will apply a numbing cream before starting the procedure to minimize any discomfort during the tattooing process. They will then use a pencil or marker to map out the desired shape of your eyebrows, and will fill in the shape with the tattoo ink. The technician will use your natural brow hair as a guide, and will apply the ink only where there is a gap in your natural brows, so hair doesn’t need to be removed.

It’s important to note that it is best to avoid any hair removal methods such as plucking, threading, waxing or sugaring at least a week before the procedure to ensure the best possible result. This allows your natural brows to grow out a bit, providing a better canvas for the tattooing process and making it easier for the technician to map out the shape of your brows.

In any case, it’s always best to discuss this and any other concerns with your technician before the procedure to ensure the best possible outcome.

Do eyebrows grow over the tattoo?

Eyebrows can grow over a tattoo, just as they can over any other area of the skin. However, the tattoo itself should not impede the growth of your natural eyebrows. The tattoo pigment is applied to the surface of the skin and should not affect the hair follicles in the underlying dermis layer.

If you already have full brows, most technicians will work with your natural shape and only fill in sparse areas or gaps. And the tattoo will mimic the look of hair, creating the illusion of a fuller brow. As your natural brow hair grows, it will grow over and around the tattooed strokes. This will help to create a more natural look over time, and make the tattoo look less obvious.

How many sessions do I need?

For traditional cosmetic tattooing, the process generally takes two sessions: one initial session and one touch-up session 4-8 weeks later. The first session, the technician will create the basic shape and then at the touch up, will fill in any areas that may need more color or to correct any imperfections that may have appeared after healing.

It’s important to keep in mind that these are just estimates, and individual results may vary. Everyone’s skin is different, and healing time and pigmentation can vary. It’s also important to note that regardless of the technique used, the tattoo will require touch-ups over time to maintain the desired look. The frequency of touch-ups will depend on how quickly your skin regenerates and how well you take care of your tattooed brows.
