Rare Gems are extra-special gems that enhance the player's game in Bejeweled Blitz, minus for the discontinued PC version.

Overview[]
Rare Gems, when activated, cause special events in the game, altering regular gameplay mechanics. The functions of each rare gem depend on the Rare Gem used. For example, the PhoenixPrism spawns special gems that clear gems in a diagonal space when cleared; Blazing Steed increases the explosion range of Flame Gems and starts the game with Blazing Speed; Cat's Eye uses lasers to destroy gems at the end of a game, and etc. Limited Rare Gems mostly share the ability to replace Flame Gems of a certain color and increase their explosion range, start with a preset board or change nearby gem colors into the preferred color of the Rare Gem.
Rare Gems can generally be obtained by purchasing one using coins upon starting a game, won through the Daily Spin, gifted by a Facebook friend, achieving certain Key Stone goals, and completing the Daily Challenge at the Gold Star Cat Rank. Some Rare Gems can also be obtained through special links offered by Bejeweled's social media accounts. After using a Rare Gem, the next game will offer the same Rare Gem at a successively discounted price, referred as a "streak". Upon using a Rare Gem, a streak will be offered for the next two games. Should the player decide to not purchase the Rare Gem again, the streak will end and the Rare Gem can no longer be purchased.
Rare Gems can also be purchased and stored in the Items tab of the game. If the player wins a Rare Gem, they can use it for the next game or store it in the Items box, where it can be used later on at no additional charge.
